Using the forms of circle, triangle and rectangle I created a sculpture that paid tribute to the fundamental elements of shape and form. I also created a sense of frozen motion with the forms interacting with the surrounding space.
David Skora
Whether two-dimensional or three, there is a commonality of imagery which arises from little vignettes in my head like stills captured from a dream. These "visions" become the basis of my work and the thread which draws it together. It is then up to the viewer to interpret the archetypal images, the metaphoric content, and the symbolic meanings based on their own subconscious dramas. My images compose a puzzle whose pieces while based on a personal mythology talk to the universal in all of us.
I grew up in a small resort town in South Western Michigan. The beauty of Lake Michigan and the ever-shifting aspects of its shoreline influenced my childhood; after graduating from Western Michigan State University with a Bachelors of Science degree in Graphic Design, I moved to Chicago and worked as a Graphic Designer. I also was very active as a Painter and was regularly showing my work in galleries throughout the Mid-west. In the mid 1980's I accepted a position as a Graphic Designer on the east coast and moved to Connecticut. By the late 1980's I moved to New York City and attended graduate school at the School of Visual Arts. I received a Masters of Fine Arts degree in 1989. I moved back to Connecticut in 1990 and have called Connecticut home ever since. I have always had an affinity for sculpture and in late 1990's I started to experiment with sculpture and have been creating sculptural pieces ever since.
Currently, I live with my family in the Northwest Hills of Connecticut where I paint, sculpt, and design. When not working in my studio, I am a full-time Professor of Graphic Design at Western Connecticut State University.
